Eagle Plains Stakes High-Grade Zinc Occurrence in Yukon
Yukon Territory | November 8, 1999Cranbrook, B.C.:Eagle Plains Resources Ltd. (EPL:ASE) is pleased to announce that it has completed additional staking on a high-grade zinc occurrence located 210 km north of Dawson City, Yukon. Surface occurrences were examined by Eagle Plains geologists in July of this year, and six claim units (PAMA 1-6) were staked over the mineralized showings. A staking crew was recently mobilized from Whitehorse, and secured an additional 32 units (PAMA 7-38), making the total property area approximately 1900 acres in size.
Mineralization was first discovered in the PAMA area in the early 1970's by Inexco Mining, a subsidiary of Inexco Oil. During 1973, Inexco carried out a 68 man-day program on the property consisting of prospecting, geologic mapping, geochemical and geophysical surveys (EM and magnetometer), and limited blast trenching, with a total of 1,931 soil and stream-sediment samples collected. Inexco reported zinc grades of up to 47.80% in trenches, and stream sediment samples as high as 13,300 ppm zinc, in addition to soil geochemical samples highly anomalous in zinc values over a widespread area. At the conclusion of their program, Inexco geologists recommended "extensive bulldozer trenching, followed by a diamond drilling program", however this work was never carried out, and the claims eventually forfeited.
Concurrent with earlier staking activities, Eagle Plains geologists collected thirteen rock samples from throughout the Inexco soil geochemical anomaly area, returning average zinc values of 10.74%. Eagle Plains intends to complete a thorough document study of the property area over the winter months, followed by a program based on the recommendations of past workers.
Eagle Plains has a 100% interest in numerous base metal and precious metal properties in western Canada. Its properties are currently under option to Canadian and international corporations including Kennecott Canada Exploration Ltd., Rio Algom Exploration Ltd., Billiton Metals Canada Inc., CanAustra Resources, and Novagold Resources Inc. The company is well-funded, and is aggressive in its efforts to carry out responsible, effective exploration activities throughout its theatre of operations.
